Enlightening arguments

Simply convincing

LEDs allow enormous savings potential with regard to power consumption, CO2 emissions and maintenance costs – without cutting back on light quality. Taking the long service life into account too, there are more arguments in favour of LEDs, although the purchase costs are relatively high compared to those of conventional light bulbs. High-tech solutions enable a reduction of electricity costs of up to 80% (depending on the respective system solution).

LEDs are – compared to standard lamps like light bulbs or halogen lamps – very efficient. Whereas light bulbs have an efficiency of about 10 lm/W and halogen lamps of about 20 lm/W, white LEDs have an efficiency of about 70 to100 lm/W.

LEDs are point light sources and emit directed light.

Light emitted by LEDs does not contain any infrared (IR) or ultra-violet (UV) components. They can thus be used more flexibly.

LEDs do have a significantly longer service life than other light sources. Their average service life amounts to approximately 60.000 operating hours.

LED are „green“ products: They do not contain any substances that are harmful to the environment, such as quicksilver or lead.

LEDs are continuously dimmable without any energy losses.

LEDs enable an improved colour reproduction compared to conventional lighting technologies. The colour rendering index of LED street lightings, is significantly better in comparison with that of conventional street lights that usually use yellowish sodium vapour lamps.

Already today, the entire life cycle costs of LED lights are in some areas significantly lower than those of conventional lamps. This includes for example car park lighting or street lighting.

A white incandescent light bulb for example converts only 5% of the consumed energy into light, whereas LED lights have a luminous efficiency of about 35%. Furthermore, the conventional light bulb has reached the end of its development – however, this is not true for LED technology. There is still potential for improvement with regard to efficiency – this way, LEDs could become even more efficient light sources.

However, there is one minor disadvantage: The service life of LEDs decreases significantly if the lamp gets too hot. To prevent this, the PHOTURIS® T-series ensures optimal heat management to secure that the heat generated is dissipated and thus guarantees a long service life.
